C2 Education
C2 Education is a for-profit American company that offers subject tutoring, and tutoring for standardized achievement tests, in particular those offered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), such as the PSAT and SAT, and also the ACT offered by ACT, Inc. It is currently the third largest provider of SAT preparation programs after Kaplan and Princeton Review.
C2 began humbly in 1997 by two Harvard students, David J. Kim and Kittiboon Narangajavana in late 1997 as a private tutoring program run out of a Harvard dorm room.
After graduating in 2000, they opened their first physical center in Timonium, Maryland. Since then, C2 has garnered many awards and accolades in both teaching and business. In 2002, the State of Maryland recognized C2 for its outstanding contributions to education in the State. In 2006, C2 was names a Verizon/Forbes Enterprise Finalist, and in 2007 the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce awarded C2 the Pinnacle Small Business Award. The same year the Gwinnett Post incorrectly referred to C2 as a cram school because of the high percentage of Asians who attend C2 and the ethnicity of the founders. It was written that C2 was the first cram school that successfully branched out to a mainstream clientele (although C2 had never positioned itself as targeting Asians exclusively). An apology was later issued by the editors.
In 2008, C2 began an unprecedented 18-month expansion campaign. C2 Education currently serves 25,000 students and their families each week. Today it is based in Duluth, Georgia and has over 121 centers throughout the world. In the United States, C2 has centers in California, Flordia, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. In Canada, it has centers in British Columbia and Ontario. In South Korea, it has centers in Bundang, Ilsan, Jamsil, Sangdong, Mokdong, and Daechi Dong. Frannet named C2 the fastest growing education franchise in the US. C2 was also ranked 9th in Inc.
