C-Light

C-Light is Clemson University's new fiber optic system that connects to Atlanta,Georgia and Charlotte, North Carolina. This provides Clemson with a physical and direct connection to high-speed, high-capacity research networks such as Nation Lambda Rail and Internet 2. Clemson University has a 20-year right to use the fiber optic network, which makes Clemson the "owner" of the network for 20-year period. The "C" in C-Light stands for Clemson because Clemson is the owner of it and "Light" because fiber optic is based on light. C-Light is a network that is based in facilities. This allows the network to be quickly configured to give a single user dedicated direct access to massive amounts of data.

Capacity

C-Light is able to provide 16 individual 10-Gigabit connections. Bandwidth is not the only important factor for this type of network. Clemson can configure this network very quickly to dedicate access as needed to academic and research projects.

Internet Increase

C-Light is not used for commodity Internet access, but for those who need it for academic and research purposes that require facilities-based networks. If someone accesses resources that are on NLR or Internet 2, your connection will be faster because you will be automatically routed through C-Light.
