C. C. Saint-Clair

C.C. Saint-Clair (birthdate –) is an Australian author of urban and sensual lesbian novels who was born of French parents in Casablanca, Morocco. Saint-Clair has written seven paperback novels, ebooks, two [...] adult tales, and two screenplay adaptations of her novels since 2001. Her novel Far From Maddy came in second at the Rhode Island International Film Festival LGBT screenplay competition in 2005 and in the quarter-finals (out of 3369 entries) at the international Scriptapalooza1 competition in August 2006.

Biography

Saint-Clair was born to French parents in Casablanca, Morocco and majored in English literature at the University of Texas at Austin in the seventies.

Career

Saint-Clair has been described as "the Thinking-Woman's Lesbian Romance Writer" because of the sensually descriptive lesbian relationship issues she wove in intelligent plots focusing on the dark side of women's lives.

Though she has stated she does not see a direct link between that description and her writing, she stated in an interview with Curve magazine that the term Social Realism was much better suited as a genre descriptor of her writing. She went on to publish another 6 novels, including "Far From Maddy". Her other best known novel is "Morgan in the Mirror".

Written in 2004, at a time when Female - to - Male "FTM" transgenderism was viewed as a rather obscure condition, it was for many lesbians the first novel they read that dealt with the topic. "Morgan in the Mirror" was quickly accepted by the established activists of the FTM movement. Morgan in the Mirror was also discussed on Gender Talk in an interview with Saint-Clair hosted by Nancy Nangeroni & Gordene O. MacKenzie.

Some individuals belonging to the new brand of FTM militants flamed Saint-Clair’s novel on the grounds that, as a non-member of the FTM community, she had no right to write creatively about a fictitious FTM’s journey.

C.C. Saint-Clair went on to adapt both "Far From Maddy" and "Morgan in the Mirror" to screenplays. Both have won awards as scripts, however none have so far lead to being optioned. More recently, Saint-Clair published a series of short stories, such as The Whip-Hand – an [...] plot with a strong [...] slant - and The Fish-Whispered and The Crab-Catcher, a metaphoric tale of the theme of [...] awakening. They are showcased on Amazon.com's Shorts. Saint-Clair also wrote Awakening, a piece that deviates from all her others in the sense that it is written along the lines of a Tao tale. It is seen as a metaphor for letting things happen - a tentative first-step exploration of the spiritual concept of "no-self". It is a reminder to be "in the moment".

Philosophical and/or political views

Saint-Clair believes that enjoying novels should not be the privilege of those who can afford them. She serializes entires novels on a regular basis to make them available as free downloads. She believes in the values of traditional feminism and is involved with the protection of women in issues of domestic violence. C.C. Saint-clair is one of the first lesbian writers to address the issue of same-[...] domestic violence in a novel, "Risking-Me", to lift the cone of silence that shrouds the issue in most LGBT communities. She campaigns for Reclaim The Night and believes that Karma is a dynamic process that can be influenced through our thoughts and actions if we can get past our ego-persona. Saint-clair regularly makes one of her novels available in its entirety as a series of free downloads, which is currently the case with Morgan in the Mirror.
