From Jaffa to Agripas
From Jaffa to Agripas - Dance in Mahane Yehuda market was established to raise public discourse on physical body culture in the city of Jerusalem. The effect of the event and the impact it had on the audience was unprecedented for a project that deals with the experience of dance and body culture in public spaces. The event consists of three to four performances that take place in the streets of the Mahane Yehuda market during two to three consecutive evenings (once in the fall and again in the spring). Artists and choreographers from all over israel come together to collaborate with Jerusalem based artists and dancers in order to create compositions that speak to a diverse audience. From an artistic perspective, the enjoyment this event creates, in addition to the vast amount of exposure to the art of dance, mirrors the feelings of the great revolution ‘From Jaffa to Agripas’. This is an example of c.a.t.a.m.o.n’s leading position in encouraging open public discourse on physical culture in public spaces in Jerusalem, and in the world.
