Burr Oak Bike Trails

The Burr Oak Trails in Bird's Hill Provincial Park, Manitoba, Canada are a fun set of beginner friendly mountain bike trails within 20 minutes of the Winnipeg City limits. These trails are smooth, dirt singletrack that tend to be fast and fun. There are a few stretches of tighter, technical trail that snake up and down the major ridgeline that extends through the park. These trails are fun for all levels and are a good choice for seasoned riders who would like to take beginners out for a fun, authentic off-road experience.

The Burr Oak Trails make up the race course for the summer Wednesday Night Race Series that is overseen by the Manitoba Cycling Association. Participation in these races require a MCA license and are a perfect introduction to racing for those cyclists interesting in competition, but not quite brave enough to tackle the longer, more challenging courses elsewhere in the province.

Wildlife abounds in Bird's Hill Provincial Park, and it's quite common to see deer on the trails. Vegetation is a combination of Burr Oak, Aspen and long grasses. Poison Ivy is also present and could be an issue to those who are very susceptible to getting it.

This trail system is only AbOUT 5 years old, and most of the credit for their creation is given to the "godfather" of Manitoba mountain biking - Lindsay Gauld. He has put in a lot of man hours of trail work, and has been instrumental in organizing trail work days. The Manitoba mountain biking community owes a lot to the contributions of This Man.
