Bulgarian parliamentary election, March 1879
The fist Bulgarian parliamentary elections and the first Bulgarian elections ever were held in January 1879. One year after the Liberation from the Ottom Empires, the Bulgarian people voted for the first time. The First Parlament of Bulgaria was elected. The Parliamnet convened in Veliko Turnovo in 1879 to ratify the State's first Constitution, known as the Turnovo Constitution on April 16 1879.The Bulgarian Parliament was transferred from the old capital Brliko Turnovo to Sofia, which became the capital of the country. The fitst National Assembly ( Parlament) was called Constituent Assembly and was opened with a celebration at 10 am on February 10, 1979 by the Bulgarian King Alexander I. The members of the first Parlament of Bulgaria were 231. The speaker of the Parliamnet was Antim I. The Liberal Party won the elections.
