Bukit Merah Community Library
The Bukit Merah Community Library (Chinese: 红山社区图书馆) located within Toa Payoh Central in Singapore was officially opened on 28 December 1982 by Mr Lim Chee Onn, then Member of Parliament and Minister Without Portfolio.
Bukit Merah Community Library was closed for eight months from 28 June 2004 for major upgrading. It finally reopened its doors to the public on 25 February 2005. Senior Parliamentary Secretary, MINDEF & Ministry of Environment and Water Resources and MP, Tanjong Pagar GRC, Associate Professor Koo Tsai Kee, officiated the reopening ceremony.
Covering an area of 4,149 square metres, the library serves residents in central areas of Bukit Ho Swee, Bukit Merah, Henderson, Leng Kee, Radin Mas, Tanjong Pagar, Telok Blangah and Tiong Bahru.
Features
The library was the first among the public libraries to offer Audio-Visual loan services, including video and CD-Roms. 14000 of these AV materials are available for public borrowing.
