BTS GA Luxembourg
The BTS GA treats industrial automation systems, project management, European languages and general studies. Industrial automation systems are automations systems, which manage a whole building like schools, banks and offices. Project management is about managing projects in areas of electrical, heating and ventilation additional there is resource management.
Description
The Brevet de Technicien Supérieur (BTS) is a two-year higher education program with the value of a BAC+2 similar to the American associate degree (AS). The graduates of this BTS have such opportunities as working as a project manager for electricity network operators, industrial production equipment manufacturers and installers of electrical, heating and ventilation systems. During the 4-semester program, the students of the BTS get valuable work experience due to the Internship program, which includes on-site project management in the final phase.
History
The first year of the BTS GA program began in 2015. The current graduating class will be the second. The first graduating class was consisted of seven students; four of them completed the final year projects with success. The second and current graduating class contains five students. They will graduate this year.
Areas of study
The largest part of this program is technical in various areas comprising parts of the electrical engineering and information technologies.
The BTS-GA program is designed to ensure the graduates are able to both use the technology and communicate effectively between engineer and the worker, specifically in the different automation areas including smart buildings, factories, infrastructures and processes.
Program
Information technologies
The Information technologies course includes basic programming techniques (loops, data structures, decision-making structures, modularity, state machines etc.) with the software “NI LabVIEW”, which is a system-design platform and development environment for a visual programming language from National Instruments. For the practical experience in data acquisition with measurements hardware, the program uses NI Elvis II+, files I/O techniques, creating & controlling the user interface, it also includes the data management software “NI Diadem” to create spreadsheets and learn the basics of technical data management: viewing data, creating reports, analyzing data, assigning units and writing scripts using VBS.
Automation technologies
The automation technologies course is in general for the programming of processes in the industrial industry like manufacturing facilities, for programmable logic controllers (PLCs) with software from Phoenix Contact and Siemens. The course content includes programming languages like ladder diagram (LD), function block diagram (FBD), structured text (ST) and sequential function chart (SFC) in various applications.
Electro mobility
The electro mobility course is all about the different technics that are used in all kind of electrical vehicles, that includes also the batterie charging and also various other energy storage variants that exists. The course content also includes the reconciling the dimensions of all important characteristics from an electrical vehicle (batteries, motors, etc.).
Computer Aided Engineering
The Computer Aided Engineering class gives you the knowledge and experience to elaborate a project in use of different software, specifically AutoCAD® and EPLAN® with electric and Fluid add-on's.
Electrical engineering
The course content of electrical engineering includes the electromagnetism, semi conductors, variable regimes

Degree dissertation
In an academic degree, the dissertation is a document which is representing the author's research and findings for a project. In the BTS Génie Automatique program the degree dissertation is with a collaboration in an enterprise organized. This gives the students a practical experience in the professional sector, which requires some knowledge in theoretical and practical to plan and create a project in a period of 6 weeks.
Facilities
The facilities of the BTS program is located in the building of the Lycée des Arts et Métiers (LAM) in Luxembourg City at Limpertsberg. There are electronics laboratories with various electrical equipment such as breadboards for creating experimental circuits or PLC's.
Each student is provided with a desktop PC using Intel Core i3 with professional software including LabVIEW for handling remote sensor data, AutoCAD for 2D/3D drawing plus Solidworks and Inventor for 3D mechanical design. Every student being part of the program has access to the online network office 365 where he can download and access all of the windows office programs during the studies.
