Brian W. Matthews

Brian W Matthews, (September 27, 1978) born in the North East of England, is a nature and wildlife photographer.

Matthews has had an interest in the outdoors and wildlife from a very young age. Matthews did an undergraduate in physics and postgraduate in management science both at Lancaster University and has been a photographer since leaving University

Photographers like Theo Allofs and Frans Lanting have inspired Matthews to travel and photograph wildlife and landscapes all over the world. Scandinavian photographers, like Staffan Wildstrand, Eero Kemila and Peter Lilja have influenced his style, not to just photograph the subject but to let the image tell a story of the subjects habitat and behaviour

Matthews’ photographs have appeared in books, magazines, calendars and web sites all over the world, including Practical Photography (UK), Camera Natura (Sweden), Terre Sauvage (France), Birds Illustrated (UK) and Travel Photographer of the Year (UK). Matthews is currently working on a book on Corbett National Park in India.

Matthews has visited over 30 countries including New Zealand, Namibia and India photographing a variety of birds, mammals and landscapes.

Matthews' debut exhibition was based at the Washington Wildfowl & Wetland Trust displaying a range of UK and International photographs.

Matthews' current exhibition named "Home and Away" in the The McGuinness Gallery based at Bishop Auckland Town Hall showing various work from Borneo, Norway, Finland, India and Brazil.

Matthews uses a Canon EOS 1DS MKII and 1D MKII cameras with a range of Canon L series lenses from 20mm up to 500mm.
