Boriana Balin

Boriana Balin is the pen name of Boriana Pellinen, a Helsinki based writer of Bulgarian origin. She was born in Sofia, in 1956, and graduated in English language and literature at Sofia University. Boriana moved to Finland in 1985.

Boriana Balin has published a novel in the fantasy genre, "Vechniyat Konnik", published by Ednorog Publishers, Sofia, 2004. The title of the novel can be translated in English as "Rider Everlasting" . (bookstore.bg) The novel deals with the historico-mythical character of Krali Marko, or Marko Kralevich, a Balkan folklore hero.

Boriana Balin has also published short stories and poetry both in English and in Bulgarian. She is currently working on her new novel, based on the life and death of the Russian historical personage, Grigori Rasputin.

Using her real name - Boriana Pellinen - she has also worked as a fiction translator for many years and has translated, among other authors, Iris Murdoch, Alisdair Gray and Mika Waltari into Bulgarian.
