Black Wax

Black Wax is a single released by Glaswegian Indie rock band Dananananaykroyd. It is the forth single released from their debut album Hey Everyone! and the first to be accompanied by a music video. The budget music video features the band performing the song in a small practise room.

The CD single was released on Best Before Records on 23rd March 2009. On the single version of the song (also used for the music video) the word "[...]" in the line "take it [...] back" is edited to sound like a skipped record. The b-side was a non-album track called No Wage.

Following the release of Hey Everyone Black Wax was given away for free by iTunes as part of their Single of the Week campaign.

In a review by NME Black Wax was named as one of the "must hear" tracks from Hey Everyone However it's positioning on the album was critiscised for being followed by two other singles, Totally Bone and Pink Sabbath. The reviewer believed the album would have worked better had the singles been distributed more evenly.

The song has been said to have a striking resemblance to You! Me! Dancing! by Los Campesinos! in terms of structure and melody and has contributed to Dananananaykroyd being criticised for being a Los Campesinos! clone band.
