Black Panther Rank and File (exhibit)

The Maryland Institute, College of Art takes part in the traveling exhibition showcasing the Blank Panther Party, titled, Black Panther Rank and File, with events taking place on and around the Institute’s campus, located at 1300 Mount Royal Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland from October through mid-December, 2007. The exhibit, timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Black Panther Party, features films, a speaker series and artworks containing historical artifacts, recordings, photographs and pieces about or inspired by the activities of the Black Panther Party, which saw its heyday in the 1970’s. The organization, which was co-founded in Oakland, California in 1966 by Dr. Huey P. Newton, David Hilliard and Bobby Seale, sprouted local chapters in major cities nationwide from 1966 through the mid-1980’s. A branch operated in Baltimore, Maryland, current host of the new exhibit, from 1968 to 1972.
