Bazza Albateni

Bazza Al Bateni (born 5 January 1954) is a Kuwaiti writer, illustrator, lecturer, craftsmaker and artist.

Education

-1971-1972 finished high school and won a scholarship from the ministry of education in Kuwait. -1972 studied French at the Ecole Superieure des Lettres in Lebanon. A branch of the university of Lyon . -1976 graduated from Grenoble University, France (diploma d'aptitude a l'enseignement de Francais langue etrangere ) Teaching French as a second language - Summer courses in different cities in France: Montpelier,Pau,Perpingan. - 1983-1985 Studied German at Kuwait university. - 1995 studied Urdo at Kuwait university.

Profile

-1973-1974 while student she wrote plays that had been performed on the university stage. - While student wrote the dialogue, songs and made the puppets of the first puppet show in Kuwait sponsored by the Al Nahdah Society for women, during the first festival for children. - Secretary of the Union of Kuwaiti students ( Beirut) 1973-1975 -1979 while working as a French teacher, she was illustrator And Co-author of a series of French textbooks published by the Ministry of Education for use in Kuwait's secondary schools. -1984 started working as a folklorist for the Ministry of Information at Beit al Bader (Folklore Center) -1985-1997 wrote and presented many entertainment, cultural and educational programs and dramas for the broadcasting and television stations in Kuwait and Gulf Arab countries for children and adults . -1985 exhibited copies of her paintings AbOUT old women activities in Kuwait at the Scottish Royal Museum during the opening of Kuwait ward.

Bazza Albateni also wrote the first animation film and series for the GCC countries named "Zatoor" the little donkey.1991-1993..( Arabic and English version.)

In addition to her writing she makes traditional dolls and miniatures from clay for private collectors. - Bazza Albateni wrote , produced and presented her own TV program of Story telling with my own illustrations 27 episodes for Kuwait TV( Bait El hazawi) ( Fairy tales house) -1997 won first prize in the Arab world for her story for children ”The grand house”. The contest was held by The Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States-Riyadh 1975-1997 she participated in many conferences, seminars, exhibitions and folklore, theatre and TV production festivals in Kuwait and abroad (Kuwait- Bahrain- Oman- Qatar- Sweden.) -Writing poems and songs for Kindergartens in Kuwait. -She illustrated and designed the covers of all her books. -She founded ( The Young Soldier ) a magazine for children published by the ministry of defense 1991 -1998 wrote the first play for children with the Down syndrome for Al Watan Kindergarten – ministry of education. - Wrote and published short stories, poems and many research articles in magazines... -1997 wrote all the subjects about the folklore for the Kuwait Complete Encyclopedia – Royal Court of Kuwait. -1999 Wrote 13 episodes ( drama )Hikayat Kuwaitya ( Kuwaiti stories) for Kuwait TV .Transmited on July 2000 and many other Arab TV stations. -Member of the writers association in Kuwait since 1994 -Ex board member of the Cine club in Kuwait -Committee member of the national award for children literature. State of Qatar 2006. -Bazza Albateni had a solo exibition for her paintings in London, West-Eleven gallery on Dec.2005 under the title of Precious Momnents. She works with Acrylics in geometric style but she always does portraits mostly for family and friends. -Many studies have been published about her works in books and articles by many academics from Egypt- Morocco- Algeria- Bahrain- Lebanon- Syria –Saudi Arabia and Lebanon. -1999 her first collection of short stories has been chosen By Dr.Tareq Saad Shalabi as a model of modern Arab literature in short story writing with a story of my new collection to be presented to students of Literature College of Ain Shams University in Egypt and also in the university of Callicut in India and Saudi Arabia for MA students. -2000 she received a recognition certificate from the Royal Court in Kuwait for her works and efforts in preserving and reviving Kuwaiti National heritage . - She Contributed in some PhDs and books about children literature and the folklore in Kuwait..(Kuwait- By Jennifer Scarce UK-Royal Scottish Museum 1986 ) ( Kuwait and it’s Migrant Workers – Anh Nga Longva -dissertation for the Dr.Pilot degree Institute and Museum of Anthropology –University of Oslo Nov 1993) Folktales from Kuwait (in French).
