Battle of Dobley (2010)
The Battle of Dobley occurred in Somali town of Dobley on February 18, 2010. Hizbul Islam forces attacked and captured Somali border town near the Kenyan border which was being held by the Al-Shabaab insurgent group.
According to witness account from the town, Al-Shabaab fighters were forced to flee after being overpowered by fighters loyal to Hizbul Islam's high ranking official Sheikh Ahmed Madobe."Al-Shabaab fighters abandoned the town today mid-morning after fierce clashes. Several Hizbul Islam fighters have taken positions at the centre of the town, " said a resident who requested anonymity.
Sheik Ahmed Mohamed Islam adding that they would continue the fighting until they capture several towns under the region."We were controlling Dobley town earlier, but as we left it we were not out of the border. We in Dif village near the town. So that we amassing troops and organizing operations to retake the town. And we did yesterday. We shall continue the fighting," said Mr. Serar.The people in town have great fears of another heavy clash between the two sides that breaks out in the town once again.There is no comment AbOUT the fighting from Harakat Al-Shabaab Mujahedeen so far and the clash comes as there had been military movement in parts of Lower Jubba region in southern Somalia.
The next day however, Hizbul Islam forces retreated and did not resist the hundreds of heavily armed al-Shabaab fighters which re-entered the town.
