Barry Swain

Barry Edward Bailey Swain (born 1959) is the Master for North America of the Society of the Holy Cross, the Superior General for North America of the Guild of All Souls and rector of the Church of the Resurrection (Manhattan). After studies at Allegheny College and the General Theological Seminary, he was ordained to the diaconate and priesthood by the Right Reverend Robert Campbell Witcher of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island on December 16, 1987 and June 29, 1988.

Swain served previously as curate and rector at Saint Clement's Church (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), (1993–2001) where he was involved in significant litigation regarding the membership of a parishioner.

A vocal opponent of the ordination of women in the Anglican Communion, Swain instituted prayers at St. Clement's Philadelphia during the General Convention of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America 1997 "for the removal of the scandal of the attempted ordination of women." He also opposes non-celibate homosexual clergy and the blessing of same-[...] unions, as well as being pro-life on abortion and euthanasia.

Swain is a priest associate of a Roman Catholic women's religious order, All Saints Sisters of the Poor, in Catonsville, Maryland. He is the son of Nancy Jane Swain (1924–2006).
