Barrett Sumner Mertins (born June 30, 1990 in Alexandria, Virginia) is an American Formula 3 race car driver, currently racing for Alan Racing team.
Personal life
Mertins is the middle of five brothers and was born and resides in Alexandria, Virginia. He graduated from Bishop Ireton High School in 2008 and began driving race cars on January 8, 2009.
2009 Racing
He began his racing career with Jensen Motorsport in the 2009 Formula BMW Americas Series at the age of 18 and competed in all 14 races. At the conclusion of the Formula BMW Americas season, he competed in the final 2009 Atlantic Championship race at Laguna Seca where he finished 6th.
2010 Racing
In November 2009, he signed with Alan Racing to compete in the 2010 Italian Formula Three Championship.
