AbOUT the school
The curriculum at Balcombe Grammar School is designed to develop the students as people who will take increasing responsibility for their own physical well-being, learning, relationships with others and their role in the local, national and Global Community. The curriculum in years 7, 8 & 9 is discipline-based, in line with the Victorian Essential Learning Standards. A core curriculum is complemented by elective choices, recognising that there are different ways and styles of learning. The comprehensive Primary School programme is designed to develop the skills, talents and abilities of all students. The curriculum follows the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS). Students acquire a firm grounding in Literacy and Numeracy and the curriculum is integrated where possible. We aim to make learning relevant and meaningful to our students and have them develop into lifelong learners and thinkers.
The School's Principal, Mr Matt Dodd, was awarded a teaching award by NEiTA in 2008 after two years working to set up the school. It allowed him to attend the International Space Camp held each year in the USA. The camp is set up for US Teachers of the Year along with international representatives from countries including the United Arab Emirates, Korea, Asia and Europe and that is most EXCITING. Not necessarily everyone attending is a scientist but everyone is passionate about education.
