Baba Tundey

David Tofik popularly known as Baba Tundey is a Ghanaian–Nigerian musician and songwriter known for fusing Hiplife and Afrobeats. He rose to prominence in 2023 with the release of his debut single "Talent Never Dies" and became the first male artist signed to Ghanaian label RuffTown Records in 2024.

Early life and background

Born David Tofik and popularly known as “Maame Alata Last Born”, Tundey has Ghanaian and Nigerian roots. His music blends Hiplife and Afrobeats—genres which reflect his West African influences.

Career

2023: Debut

Baba Tundey released his debut single, "Talent Never Dies," in 2023. The song introduced him to the Ghanaian music scene and established him as a promising newcomer. The track’s motivational message and urban rhythm gained traction among younger audiences, especially online.

2024–present: RuffTown Records and rising success

In May 2024, Baba Tundey was officially signed by RuffTown Records, a Ghana-based label known for producing prominent artists including the late Ebony Reigns and Wendy Shay. This made him the label’s first male signee. His signing was accompanied by the release of the remix single "Last Born" featuring Holyrina, which was released with an official music video.

Following this, Baba Tundey collaborated with Kumasi-based rapper Jay Bahd on the hit single "Anastasia," which received significant airplay and streaming success in Ghana and Nigeria.

In March 2025, he released "More Money," a collaboration with three of Ghana's top female artists: Wendy Shay, Eno Barony, and Sista Afia. The track focused on themes of empowerment and economic freedom.

In 2024, the emerging artist Baba Tundey was recognised by YEN.com.gh as one of the breakout stars of the year, following his track "Anastasia".

In 2025, Baba Tundey stated in an interview that he would only attend the Telecel Ghana Music Awards if he were scheduled to receive an award, expressing his belief that such events should recognise artistic merit rather than serve as social gatherings.
