B. taylor

William Taylor, Jr. (aka “B. Taylor”), born May 27, 1981 in Colorado Springs, CO. at the Air Force Academy Hospital then moved to Peoria, Ilinois. B. Taylor is an American musician. B. Taylor’s first official album, entitled “One Life to Live” was executive produced by Motown legend Pete Moore of Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, and will be distributed by Universal Music Group Distribution (UMGD) via a distribution deal with Phantom Records / Bungalo Records.

B. Taylor is referred to as “the Stevie Wonder of Hip Hop” by Pete Moore, due to his ability to play four different instruments, and write, produce and perform all of his own music. B. Taylor is executive produced by Pete Moore of Smokey Robinson & The Miracles (platinum recording artist, writer and producer of Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, and others). This is a first for a classic Motown artist such as Moore to be that involved with a hip hop artist. In addition, Motown Legends Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, and Stevie Wonder will surely support Moore in his collaboration with B. Taylor. Moore’s intention was to mix the Motown Sound with hip hop to incorporate a new sound for the genre which is desperately needed according to the feedback from major players in radio and in the rap community. The music on the album combines the Motown soulful sound with energetic beats of hip hop, appealing to all demographics, similar to the way of the Motown music tradition of the past.

B. Taylor’s first official single release, “Let's Get This Party started featuring Ray J” will be released on March 23rd, 2010.

B. Taylor’s first promotional single, “Getcha Hands Up” was released September 1, 2009. The official music video for Getcha Hands Up was released in September 2009. The music video has appeared online as well as on over 40 regional television channels and in regional retail stores (including Footlocker and Footaction).

B. Taylor is the son of a reverend, a former Division 1 Collegiate Athlete and graduate of the University of Missouri, a former sailor in the Navy, and a member of the All Navy Team-USA basketball team.

B. Taylors Biography

Growing up in Peoria Illinois, B. Taylor divided his time between his hobbies, music and sports. Luckily, those two interests would interweave throughout his life, granting him many career opportunities. Having a reverend for a father and a church youth choir director for a mother, it was inevitable that Taylor would be active in his church choir, which would nurture a love for making music. Throughout childhood, he played the drums, piano, organ, and guitar and sang in the choir. His first songs were taught to him by his friends Bob Robinson and Tim Kelly, who would become the platinum-selling songwriters/producers of such hits as Boyz II Men’s “On Bended Knee” (15x platinum CD), Sisqo’s “The Thong Song” (8 weeks at #1 on the charts in the U.S. and 30 countries), and Case’s “I’m Missing You” (4 weeks at #1 on the pop charts).

Taylor’s athletic prowess took him to college where he played Division I football and basketball at the University of Missouri. While in Missouri, Taylor was also active in the Naval Reserves and was picked up by the Secretary of the Navy and Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Vern Clark, to play on the All-Navy and Team USA basketball teams as part of his service. Upon completion of the basketball tour, the Navy assigned Taylor special duty to allow him to continue his professional sports and music careers while completing active military service and he received an honorable discharge in Dec. 2003. Team USA brought Taylor to the west coast where he was invited to play piano at a celebrity/NFL function. This event proved to be a turning point in his career as he was discovered by Snoop Dogg’s brother, Bing. Taylor was asked to play piano at Snoop and Bing’s mother’s birthday party and later at her wedding. At the party he played “Ribbon in the Sky” for the recording artist Lenny Williams “Sparks of Love”. That experience spawned an opportunity to begin recording in a studio in San Diego where he met members of Blink 182, Green Day and Jimmy Eat World and was given the chance to join them on their Pop Disaster Tour in 2002. This break led to the decision to pursue music more seriously.

Since then, Taylor has been performing in clubs across the country and at various special events, such as the 2004 NBA All-Star Extravaganza, the 2004 Narcotics Anonymous Convention, a concert at New York’s Manhattan Center with Cuba Gooding, and more recently the 2007 American Music Awards Pre Red Carpet event in Los Angeles and the 2008 Oscar’s pre-party at the at the Forbidden City in Los Angeles. Taylor has worked with a variety of artists, notably rapper/actor/comedian Nick Cannon (Drum Line), recording artist Nate Dogg and Legendary singers Cuba Gooding (“Everybody Plays a Fool”) and more recently platinum recording artist and producer Pete Moore of Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. Taylor has also been busy speaking about how he balanced his military service, music and sports careers, appearing on San Diego’s KUS, San Diego’s NBC and Telemundo. Meanwhile, B. Taylor continues to record in the studio where he acts as a rapper, songwriter, and producer. This multi faceted prodigy has already begun to leave his mark in the music world with his unique twists on the traditional smooth sounds of R&B mixed with the energetic beats of hip-hop.
