Austin Frerick
Austin Ronald Frerick (born January 17, 1989) is an American politician from the U.S. state of Iowa. In 2017, Frerick announced he would challenge Republican Congressman David Young for his seat in the United States House of Representatives representing Iowa’s 3rd congressional district. He is running as a Democrat.
Personal life
Frerick is openly gay. He lives in Winterset, Iowa.
Career
Frerick worked at the US Department of the Treasury and published research on pharmaceutical corporate charity abuses and the growth of monopolies in the U.S. economy.
Political positions
Frerick’s platform focuses on breaking up business monopolies. He has received attention for his opposition to the proposed Monsanto-Bayer merger. He has also proposed using the federal Farm Bill to fund Iowa State’s Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture.
