Austin-East Magnet High School shooting
On April 12, 2021, at around 3:15 pm EST, a shooting occurred at Austin-East High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States.
The shooting left one person dead and a police officer wounded. A male subject was detained by police for further questioning.
Incident
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, at around 3:15pm the Knoxville Police Department responded to a report of an armed subject at Austin-East Magnet High School. The officers found the individual at the school bathroom and ordered him out but he refused. As the officers entered the bathroom, the suspect fired at them and struck one of the responding officers. One officer returned fire. The suspect, who was identified by the TBI as a male student of the school, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Knox County Schools announced that the school would be closed for the following two days.
