Auksė Miliukaitė
Auksė Miliukaitė (born 1990) an emerging Lithuanian painter.
Biography
Auksė Miliukaitė studied photography at University of the Arts London for a year but then switched to studying painting at Vilnius Academy of Arts. She held several personal shows, she is also an active participant of group exhibitions, art projects, workshops and symposium.
Works
Auksė Miliukaitė uses historical painting production and adds contemporary visual culture details. She give new interpretation to elements from different time periods by giving them new meanings and presenting them in new context.
By analysing the change of understanding the meaning of the painting, she emphasizes the importance of the viewer and argue that content of the artwork is dependent on the viewer, rather than on its creator. In her works, the author also often questions the importance of art institutions, criticizes mechanisms of creative influence and doubts art "role-models".
