Audi Motor Assembly
The Audi Motor Assembly K.K. is a former assembly facility for automobiles. The company was founded in 1987 and had a status of a joint venture between Audi AG and Hino Jidōsha K.K. The plant was located in Tokyo, Japan and employed more than 900 workers. The plant had the possibility to assemble up to 70,000 vehicles in a year. The vehicles which were assembled in this plant can be identified within the vehicle identification number on a 9 on eleventh position. The distribution of the vehicles was a part of the dealer network from the Yanase K.K. Due to increasing competitive behavior by the Japanese company Toyota Motor Corporation, the German company stopped its cooperation in January 1998. With the termination of the local assembly, the prices for the now imported models were increasing up to 25 per cent. Only three years later, in 2000, the Audi AG has founded its own local Japanese dealer network, the Audi Japan K.K.
