Athens Information Technology
Athens Information Technology is a private not-for-profit graduate program in Athens, Greece.
History
Athens Information Technology(AIT), founded in 2002 by the INTRACOM group of companies, opened its doors with 23 students and offered one Master of Science degree. Today, has been awarded numerous national and EU research projects, offers three Master of Science degrees, executive training programs, annual summer schools, and has over 340 alumni, half of whom are international students. Since its inception seven years ago, AIT has grown to be the region’s leading international research and education hub in software engineering, information technology, telecommunications, technology and innovation management. To fulfill its mission and in the spirit of social responsibility AIT offers full and partial scholarships to all accepted students. An Academic Council of internationally renowned scientists plays an influential role by shaping the academic identity of the institution and ensuring the quality of AIT’s academic and research programs. In 2007, AIT was accredited with the European Foundation for management Development (EFMD). Friends of AIT, headquartered in New York, is a forum for academics and scientists to offer ideas on the future trends in the ICT field to be incorporated in AIT’s strategic development.
Mission
AIT’s commitment is to certain life values and free-market economies according to which science does not only relate to technological development, but also to human progress and empowerment by providing new opportunities to all; and to create a fertile environment for high quality advanced education and research innovation widely recognized as a private non-profit, socially conscious, academic initiative that promotes current education and research standards. AIT’s mission is to foster the development of high-quality information and communication technology professionals capable of creating technological breakthroughs. Close collaboration with internationally renowned academic institutions represent important partnerships that greatly contribute to AIT’s positioning in the global academic and scientific fields and enable Greece to play a significant future role in these areas.
Graduate Programs
AIT offers three masters of science in Information Networking (with Carnegie Mellon), in Information and Telecommunication Technologies, and in Management of Business, Innovation and Technology.
Research
AIT’s research in technological areas of scientific interest, for both national and EU-awarded projects, is supported by its technologically advanced infrastructure and laboratories, unique to the region. AIT is constantly forging research collaborations with universities and research institutions in Greece and abroad, and with leading international research labs in the private sector. Research activities, for both national and EU-awarded projects, focus on the following areas:

AIT has research collaborations with universities and research institutions in Greece and abroad, and with leading international research labs in the private sector(e.g. Sun_Microsystem, IBM T.J.Watson Research Center, Intralot).
Other programs
- A PhD program is offerrd in partnership with the Center for TeleInFrastruktur (CTIF), at Aalborg University (Denmark) .
- Executive Training Programs for professionals and executives in technology, leadership and management are offered in collaboration with Harvard’s KSG, Carnegie Mellon, Quint Wellington Redwood, and other universities and international product-oriented certification training companies.
- AIT’s annual Summer Schools on engineering, technology, management, and innovation related fields, facilitate students in identifying and understanding prospects for further studies or research and to retrain professionals on the latest technological advances and/or innovation management practices.
Campus
AIT’s facilities located in Peania, Athens, include three interactive amphitheaters outfitted with audiovisual network systems enabling tele-education;nine fully-equipped and technologically-advanced laboratories; a library; study rooms; a restaurant-café; bookstore; recreation area; and dormitory.
