Associate mobile
Associate Mobile (stylized associatemobile) is a Dublin based mobile web service company that specializes in the development and deployment of cloud-based mobile platforms for enterprise and consumer markets. The company was formed in October 2010 by DCU graduate Don Corbett and TCD graduate Brian Shannon and is operated and privately owned by Associate Mobile, Ltd.
The first commercial output is "mobileminder" which has been hugely successful and has earned notoriety as an innovative solution to help combat the recent wave of cyberbullying and sexting via mobile devices. mobileminder affords parents the opportunity to view who is contacting their child and monitor text messages sent to and from their child’s phone, as well as a location system to pinpoint there child at any time.
History
The initial idea to form the business came in April 2010 when Brian and Don met at the DIT Hothouse incubation program. Don was the managing director of a company Getmobied Ltd. while Brian was the managing director and lead technical architect of mobile game networking company Digital Demigods Ltd, which had received funding from the NDRC.
Initially based out of Don’s apartment, the plan was to develop a product that was commercially driven from the outset rather than a technology for the sake of it. But the two found it difficult to arrange meetings without a ready-made product. It was at this point that they decided to build mobileminder to test the market for their innovative mobile platform.
The first version of mobileminder launched in November 2010 and generated a lot of positive publicity. In early 2011, shortly after the launch of their first product Associate Mobile was selected as one of six promising technology start-ups to participate in the DCU Propeller Accelerator program which is a chartered member of the TechStars Network, the leading start-up accelerator program in the United States. The program includes seed funding as well as a three month stint in the Ryan Academy Propeller Accelerator based in the Citywest campus, Dublin.
Building on the success of mobileminder, the company is continuing to develop mobile platforms for both consumer and enterprise markets which aim to “empower mobile living”.
Platforms
Mobile Minder
mobileminder is a parental supervision platform for parents. A background application runs on the child's phone and notifies the parent (via a web interface) of unwanted behavior.
mobileminder’s online Parental Control Dashboard enables parents to view the people contacting their child and monitor messages sent to and from their child’s phone. It also has a location system that allows parents to pinpoint where their child is at any time. Another innovative aspect of mobileminder is its built-in system that notifies parents to texts with specific words that could be linked to cyber bullying, sexting or unusual behaviour.
