ASOCIO

The Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO) is a grouping of ICT industry associations representing the Asian-Oceania region. Established in 1984 in Tokyo, Japan, ASOCIO’s objective is to develop the computing society and industry across the Asia Oceania region domain by promoting trade as well as fostering relationships between its member economies. ASOCIO has created links between ICT companies and the industry’s growth in member economies.

ASOCIO represents the interests of 21 economies, comprising members from Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. There are also seven guest members from USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Russia, France, and Kenya.

As of 1 January 2010, ASOCIO is chaired by Looi Kien Leong, who represents Malaysia on behalf of PIKOM.

Mission and vision

ASOCIO was formed with the mission of serving the ICT industry in the region and enhancing its global competitiveness. ASOCIO’s major objectives are as follows:

1. Promotion and development of the interests of member economies within the computing services industry and other ancillary and allied industries and to encourage member economies to formulate, maintain and establish a code of conduct including standards of services and performance, as guidelines for compliance

2. To promote the interests of the industry through the print media (trade journals, directories, books, papers, periodicals, gazettes, circulars and other publications), exhibitions and competitions.

3. To formulate and propose model legislative or other such measures for the advancement of the computing services industry and the community and to promote opportunities for the interchange of opinions on various matters.

4. To confer, consult, maintain, contact and cooperate with any association, society or institution having objectives in whole or part similar to those of the organization.
