Asociación de amigos de Gorki

Asociación de amigos de Gorki, is a sociocultural Spanish organization recognized and recommended by the UNESCO across his international web page and it was the first foreign tourist group to visit the city of Nizhny Novgorod after his status of " Closed City " for the Soviet regime of the former USSR.

The association is employed for more of 15 years at the promotion of the Russian culture in Spain and the Spanish culture in Russia, in called " Spanish Days in Russia ". These are carried out by means of an agreement that it supports with the Town hall of Nizhny Novgorod's city.

Historical review

Asociación de amigos de Gorki was founded by Jaume R. Rabassa and Jose Antonio Lozano in 1991, in the city of Sant Boi de Llobregat (Barcelona), after several personal visits to Nizhny Novgorod and later contacts with members of the Town hall of the city.

The basic ends of the Association are to announce the Russian city that gives name to the entity, as well as all his environment, to promote the bows of friendship and solidarity with the above mentioned city, to realize exhibitions throughout the year that they bring near the cultural and social reality of the city to the Spanish citizens, the reception of orphan children of the Region on the part of Spanish families, cultural exchanges between both cities, organization of trips to Russia and sending of audio-visual, computer material and medicines to orphanages of the city and of Nizhny Novgorod's region to relieve the lacks and needs of social and cultural type for which the orphan children happen.

Projects and agreements with other entities

Every year (during more than 15 of functioning of the Association) incorporates to histrips to Nizhny Novgorod, one or two Sant Boi's cultural entities of Baix llobregat region, that they realize, by means of an agreement that it supports with Nizhny Novgorod's Town hall, an action or performance in the city, inside called " Catalan Days in Nizhny Novgorod ". In these days there have taken part associations and cultural entities that include a wide social range as:

• Diables de Casablanca. (Sant Boi de Llobregat)

• Institut Salvador Seguí. (Barcelona)

• Cuadro Flamenco "Casa de Sevilla" (Baix Llobregat / Cornellà)

• Agrupació Musical Senienca (Creu de Sant Jordi 2002 - La Sènia / Tarragona)

The association supports in a permanent way and thanks to the collaboration of the " Group of painters of Sant Boi ", an exhibition of pictures realized by the Sant Boi's artist Gracia Ruiz in the Spanish Center of Moscow, ancient there sedates from the Russian Communist party yielded by the Town hall to them about 300 ' Child of civil Spanish war ' that they remain in Russia.
