ArtCraft
ArtCraft is a suite of seven graphics and creative applications intended to provide free and open-source alternatives to several applications in Adobe Creative Cloud. Its intended market also overlaps with that of Affinity, a graphics software suite that became available free of charge in 2025 following an update after its acquisition by Canva.
The Suite covers several areas of digital content creation and document production, including raster image editing, vector graphics editing, video editing, photo library management, PDF document handling, visual effects, and desktop publishing.
Applications and features
ArtCraft comprises seven applications, each targeting a category of Creative Software also served by established commercial products.
- PhotoCraft: raster image editing, positioned as an alternative to Adobe Photoshop.
- VectorCraft: vector graphics editing, positioned as an alternative to Adobe Illustrator.
- FilmCraft: video editing, positioned as an alternative to Adobe Premiere Pro.
- LightCraft: photo library management, positioned as an alternative to Adobe Lightroom.
- PdfCraft: PDF viewing and document manipulation, positioned as an alternative to Adobe Acrobat.
- EffectCraft: animation and visual effects, positioned as an alternative to Adobe After Effects.
- DesignCraft: page layout and publishing, positioned as an alternative to Adobe InDesign.
PhotoCraft includes features such as layers, masks, adjustment layers, layer styles, and support for Adobe Photoshop's PSD file format. The project also describes live-PREview filters and selection and non-destructive editing capabilities.
An analysis published in October 2026 noted that the presence of familiar commands and menus does not necessarily mean that ArtCraft's features match those of established applications in functionality or quality. The analysis identified functional limitations and differences in rendering in some compatibility tests involving Photoshop files.
Technical characteristics
According to the project's website, ArtCraft applications are designed for desktop use on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Several applications are also available in browser-based versions using WebAssembly.
The project states that its applications are written in Rust and that their native desktop versions do not rely on Electron or embedded web views. The project also emphasizes local file processing and describes interfaces intended to support control through commands, scripts, and artificial intelligence agents.
