Arjan Aguirre

Arjan Aguirre is a Filipino political scientist and assistant professor at the Ateneo de Manila University, where he specializes in Philippine politics, governance, and foreign policy analysis. He is frequently cited by national media as a political analyst.

Early life and education

Aguirre earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Santo Tomas (2001–2005). He later completed a Master of Arts in Political Science, major in Global Politics, at Ateneo de Manila University (2006–2009) as a service scholar. In 2020, he obtained a Master of Science in Comparative Politics (Democracy and Democratization) from the London School of Economics and Political Science as a Chevening Scholar.

Career

Aguirre has served as a consultant for various institutions, including Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan, the Legal Network for Truthful Elections (LENTE), the Senate of the Philippines, and the House of Representatives of the Philippines. He is also a research fellow at the Ateneo School of Government for the ACCESS Bangsamoro Project.

He is an active member of academic organizations such as the American Political Science Association (APSA), Midwest Political Science Association (MPSA), Political Studies Association (PSA-UK), International Political Science Association (IPSA), and Philippine Political Science Association (PPSA). He is also an associate member of the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP).

From 2017 to 2019, Aguirre served as the director of the Ateneo Martial Law Museum. He has presented research at conferences in South Korea (2013), Australia (2016), Germany (2017), and Portugal (2021).

Academic work

Aguirre serves as an assistant professor at the Ateneo de Manila University's Department of Political Science under the Dr. Rosita G. Leong School of Social Sciences.
