Arik Air Flight 740
Arik Air Flight 740 was a regularly scheduled passenger flight from Murtala Muhammed International Airport to Port Harcourt International Airport. On February 11, 2026, the Boeing 737-700 operating this route suffered a uncontained engine failure. The aircraft then made an emergency landing at Benin Airport in Nigeria. All 80 occupants on board survived without any injury.
Accident
The engine suffered a uncontained engine failure. The inlet came off and a shutdown occurred. Both cowlings were torn and the leading edge of the vertical stabilizer was damaged. The pilots then diverted the aircraft to Benin Airport in Benin City, Nigeria. The 737 made a successful emergency landing and came to a stop on the runway shortly after touching down.
