Anwar Hussain Khan (aircraftman)

Anwar Hussain Khan (died 21 September 1965) was a non‑commissioned air force serviceman in the Pakistan Air Force. He was posthumously awarded the military decoration Tamgha-i-Jurat (fourth‑highest military award of Pakistan) for his actions during the India–Pakistan war of 1965.

Biography

In 1965, during conflict between India and Pakistan, Khan was serving as a radar mechanic at a maintenance facility in Badin, Sindh. On 21 September 1965, an enemy rocket struck an equipment building, starting a fire at a critical operational site. He remained at his post and fought the blaze with available firefighting equipment in an effort to protect military assets. He was killed in the line of duty while attempting to control the fire.

Khan was posthumously awarded the Tamgha-i-Jurat, a Pakistani military decoration awarded for his courage, selfless conduct, and devotion to duty under direct enemy attack. His grave is located near the main guardroom at the Badin facility.

Legacy

Khan is remembered in Pakistan's military history for his sacrifice during the 1965 war. His actions are commemorated annually by personnel and visitors at his burial site, underscoring the sacrifices made by non‑commissioned members of the armed forces during conflict.
