Ansvar insurance
Ansvar Insurance is a business division of Ecclesiastical Insurance Office PLC. Ansvar is an ethical general insurer aiming to provide optimum support to insurance intermediaries who serve the insurance needs of individuals and organisations in the not-for-profit sector which encompasses churches, connected organisations, charities and other voluntary groups. The company donates a proportion of its profits to charities and affiliates each year.
Ansvar translates as ‘responsible’ in Swedish.
History
Ansvar was formed in Sweden in 1932 out of the Swedish Temperance Movement. Insurance was mainly provided for the motor and home to total abstainers. The company started working in the UK in 1959 with their first offices located in Cornhill, London. After a brief period in Wembley, Middlesex, Ansvar moved to Eastbourne on the South coast of England where its offices still remain. Since 1992 the focus has moved from motor insurance and since built up strong 'free' church connections and specialist insurance for the charity sector.
Operations
Ansvar provides a wide range of insurance products in the not-for-profit sector through specialist insurance intermediaries.
Ansvar doesn't work with companies whose businesses revolve around alcohol, tobacco, gaming or armaments. The company gives tangible support to individuals and organisations who work to reduce the harm that alcohol and drugs cause in society, donating a share of profits to organisations involved in alcohol and [...] education rehabilitation, such as Adfam, Be Your Best Foundation, Coram, Drugscope and Hope UK.
Each year Ansvar sponsors the popular Rock Challenge where schools form teams of between 20 and 134 people aged 11 to 18 years old, to create a 5 to 8 minute performance that reflects an issue in society or a subject of interest
