Andy Doonan
Andrew James Doonan (born 26 May 1988) is an English musician and singer-songwriter. Doonan is described as having a fresh energetic sound that blends melodic acoustic pop, indie and folk. His catchy vocal hooks, clear lyrics and a unique voice have recently captured the attention of local press in Yorkshire and BBC Radio Leeds, and his lively performances continue to expand an ever-growing loyal fan base.
His live band (The Lightwalks) travelled all over the UK in 2011 to headline famous venues such as The Cavern, Liverpool and have played at renowned venues such as The Bedford in London, Manchester Academy, The Scarborough Open Air Theatre and The Duchess, York.
In late 2010, Andy Doonan gained investment to record his debut album ‘Lights and Mirrors’ with The Pigeon Detectives producer Andy Hawkins, which was released in June 2011 following the April release of debut single and music video Made in Hollywood.
Andy Doonan in recent months has enjoyed support slots with commercial chart-topping bands such as The Hoosiers, The Twang, and Jon Allen. In January 2012, Doonan pulled in an impressive crowd at The Duchess, York with a support slot with Toploader who had a string of top 20 hits.
Doonan played in many bands from an early age, including Crimson Daydream, who won several band competitions and supported the successful Elliot Minor and Hijack Oscar. Crimson Daydream also headlined at renowned music venue The Cockpit on several occasions, playing to near sell-out audiences. Doonan has also supported One Night Only, After the Fire, Dave Mcpherson (INME), The Humour, The Little Comets and The Dunwell Brothers Band.
Live and Unsigned said “Great strong vocals...Good performer!” just before Andy recently won the North West England Area Finals of national music competition Live and Unsigned UK 2011. This led to a performance at the , earning Andy positive reviews from BBC Radio 1 and Kerrang, and gaining a great deal of local publicity with newspaper and magazine features, and local radio play.
An accomplished singer, guitarist, and pianist, the 23 year-old’s exciting original songs and powerful voice are starting to turn heads, appealing to a wide audience. With a highly-valued fanbase, lots of support and hard work, Andy is beginning to break on to the bigger music scene in 2012.
