Andrew Oteng-Amoako

Andrew Oteng-Amoako (born Andrews Akwasi Oteng-Amoako, September 1, 1947) is a Ghanaian forestry engineer and businessman who is most known for his research work into the use and preservation of tropical timbers.

He is an emeritus Chief Research scientist of the Forestry Research Institute of Ghana, CSIR. He was the former Deputy Director of the Institute and held position of Assistant Director Papua New Guinea Forest Research Institute. He is also an emeritus Professor. He has published four world-renowned works on the anatomy of tropical timbers internationally.

Early life

Oteng-Amoako was born to an Ashanti family in Asante-Mampong, Ghana. He moved to Hamburg, Germany in 1969 and later to the United States. His original name was Andrews, but he later adopted the anglicized name Andrew.^{[citation needed]}

Education

Oteng-Amoako attended Prempeh College, and then entered Hamburg University in 1970, studying forestry engineering. He received forte diplome in forestry engineering in 1973 from The University of Hamburg. He was elected to membership in the honor society. He later attended Oregon State University, Corvalis, Oregon, where he studied Wood Products Engineering in 1976.

He worked at CSIR in Ghana, West Africa. He would later pursue his PhD studies at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry where he graduated in 1983 in forestry engineering.

Personal life

Oteng-Amoako is married to Cecilia with whom he has three children: Kingsley Oteng-Amoako an accomplished engineer and investment banker, Kofi Oteng-Boateng a renowned facial surgeon and Afua Asare who serves as an associate professor at The University of Utah Medical School.
