Andrew Lawrence (Spooks)

Andrew Lawrence MP is the Home Secretary in the BBC television drama Spooks being portrayed by actor Tobias Menzies. He was appointed during the events of Series 8, Episode 7 after the resignation of his predecessor Nicholas Blake who was implicated in a faked scandal by covert organization Nightingale.

Series 8

Lawrence is a young Minister who is appointed as the new Home Secretary in Series 8, Episode 7 after his predecessor's resignation. Harry Pearce goes to meet Lawrence soon after his appointment to discuss the worsening relations between British Muslims and Hindus and that a Hindu organization is planning an attack on a Muslim area, Lawrence promises Harry full support and says that Harry was recommended by Blake, and both agree that Blake was not corrupt and had been set up. He appears later on in the episode after he refuses to send CO19, the police armed response squad to one of two locations being attacked by the Hindu organization, instead choosing to send CO19 to the second location, a small house rather than the first location, a heavily populated Muslim college.

Lawrence argues to Harry that sending CO19 to the college could result in accidental deaths of hostages and instead prefers to negotiate, after the intervention of Lucas North and a contact named Ashok the situation is resolved with only [...] fatalities. Harry and Ros Myers then meet Lawrence in his office, and is pleased to hear that the [...] cell leader, Victor Chaterjee was behind all events and unconnected to any one. Harry and Ros then suspect privately that Lawrence is a Nightingale operative. At the end of series 8, it is unknown whether Lawrence is alive after Ros tried to help a paralysed Andrew Lawrence escape from a London hotel which blew up with both Ros and Lawrence inside
