Andrew Harris (musician)
Andrew Jay Harris is a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist hailing from DeKalb, Illinois, USA, who has recorded and performed under the pseudonym "Akhenaten" (after the Egyptian Pharaoh of the same name). He established himself on the black metal underground especially with his now-defunct solo project Judas Iscariot (1992–2002). During the same period, Harris also recorded and/or performed with Sarcophagus (1991–2001), Weltmacht (1998–2002), and Seeds of Hate (1999–2001, under the name "Dawn of Armageddon"). After the demise of Judas Iscariot, he abandoned the stage name "Akhenaten" in order to ensure that subsequent projects would not "suffer in the shadows of Judas Iscariot". Since ending Judas Iscariot, Harris has had a few other musical projects, including Debauchery (2003), Desolation Hymn (2003), and Flagellator (2001–2003), both of which he created/recorded under his initials, A.J.H. He was also live session bassist for Nargaroth in 2004.
While known primarily for his music, Andrew Harris also has a master's degree in sociology from Northern Illinois University. His master's thesis is titled, The Transylvanian Saxons : an analysis of social organization and institutions.
Political Donations
In 2002, a $25,000 donation was made to the campaign of Democratic candidate for attorney general Lisa Madigan by Andrew Harris. When Harris's relation to the black metal band Judas Iscariot came to light, Madigan agreed to donate the money to anti-hate groups, according to The Chicago Tribune.
