Andrew Gulledge

Andrew Karl-Oski Gulledge (born 1980 in Newport Beach, California, United States) is a Spanish-American writer, researcher, analyst, and consultant.

Writer/Researcher

Gulledge has authored a self-help book, a scientific book chapter, two peer-reviewed journal articles, and is a Contributor to the literary and humor site of McSweeney's. His book, The Art of Persuasion: A Practical Guide to Improving Your Convincing Power, has won both Editor's Choice and Reader's Choice awards. His research on romantic physical affection has been featured by the popular online relationship service eHarmony.

Gulledge's contributions to the field of marriage research include more granular knowledge around romantic physical affection and its relationship to healthy couples, including its effects on relationship satisfaction and conflict resolution. He breaks down physical affection into multiple subtypes, including backrubs/massages, caressing/stroking, cuddling/holding, holding hands, hugging, kissing on the face, and kissing on the lips.

Data Analyst/Consultant

Gulledge has worked as a data analyst and consultant for Experian, Triad Financial Corporation, and independently. His work at Experian focuses on knowledge-based authentication for fraud prevention. His work at Triad Financial Corporation focused on front- and back-end risk management. He has worked independently as an academic research consultant.

Background

Gulledge grew up in Newport Beach, California, and completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Brigham Young University and a Master of Science degree in Marital and Family Therapy from Loma Linda University. He is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

He married his wife in 2002, and they currently live in Bothell, Washington with their two children.

From 1999-2001, Gulledge served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Colorado Denver South Mission, covering areas in Colorado and Kansas (see also Missionary (LDS Church)). He was assigned to speak Spanish on his mission, and is still fluent today. He is an ACTIVE member in his local congregation.
