Andrew Applepie

Andreas Plab (born 27 September 1989 in Munich), known professionally as Andrew Applepie, is a German songwriter, musician and producer of experimental electronic music.

Career

Andrew Applepie began playing INSTRUMENTS and writing songs at the age of 13. He was singer and guitarist of the alternative indie pop band Cat Stash. In 2014 he composed the theme song "Confidence" for the comedy film AbOUT A Girl. As of the summer of 2015, he produces beats and songs using diverse equipment from normal and exotic instruments to drum machines and household aids. Although some of his songs appear to have the feel and structure of sampled hip hop beats, he only uses parts he has played or recorded himself.

In the fall of 2015, his music started to reach a broad public when YouTube personalities and popular vloggers like Casey Neistat from New York City (YouTuber of the Year 2016), Mark Rober from California and Alfie Deyes from Brighton, who have several millions of YouTube subscribers, began using his songs in their videos. Since then, a lot of more and less known YouTubers have been using his tracks worldwide. Especially this combination helped Andrew Applepie's music spread very fast and internationally. One of the most viral videos featuring his music is Mark Rober's "25 MILLION Orbeez in a pool – Do you sink or float?" with over 20 million views.

Under the name of "Hybrid Kings", Andrew Applepie started playing live shows together with Berlin-based jazz pianist and composer Lorenz Kellhuber in the summer of 2016. Their individual sound is created by improvised live looping of acoustic instruments and electronic beats.

Awards and recognition

In 2016, Andrew Applepie received the music award of the city of Regensburg in the category "Innovative Music".
