Ananda-Nalanda

Ananda - Nalanda (Ananda versus Nalanda cricket match) is played between Ananda College, Colombo and Nalanda College Colombo. It was first played in 1924.

Contribution made by Ananda and Nalanda in cricketing arena cannot be matched by any school in Sri Lanka. Since obtaining Test status, players produced by both colleges played a key role in the ProgresS of Sri Lanka Cricket. Majority of the cricketers in the national teams have been from these two institutions which have produced talented and well disciplined cricketers. So far, Ananda and Nalanda have the honor of producing more than 25 cricketers to the Sri Lankan national teams. Sri Lanka's first test captain was a Nalandian Bandula Warnapura and 1996 world champion team was led by Anandian Arjuna Ranatunga. Sri Lanka team that entered finals in 2007 were led by Nalandian Mahela Jayawardena.
