Anand Narain Kapoor

Anand Kapoor (born August 11, 1973) is an entrepreneur based out of Dubai. He is the Vice Chairman and proprietor of Midcom group. He was named as one of the top 100 Indian leaders in UAE by Forbes Middle East in 2013. He was also named in the top 25 Next Generation Indian leaders based in UAE by Xponent media.

Early life

Anand Narain Kapoor was born and brought up in the heart of Uttar Pradesh, Kanpur. He began his education by joining Jaipuria School, Kanpur. He then went to complete his graduation from Christ Church College in Kanpur. At the age of 22, he completed his post-graduation from Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow. Anand credits his success to the learnings and experiences he got from Jaipuria Institute, Lucknow as he believes that it provided him the platform to learn the dynamics of the corporate world and empowered him to innovate and establish himself as a successful entrepreneur.

Business career

After completing his higher studies, Anand Kapoor moved to Uganda to work for an East African Bank. After spending time understanding the local business climate, he set up a FOREX bureau in Uganda. In the year 1999, he purchased a 40 acre site, on the banks of Lake Victoria near Entebbe and forayed into the business of farming and exporting of roses. He further expanded by acquiring an international school via a tender floated by IFC.

In the year 2004, he started with his biggest venture Midcom, the telecommunication arm of the Midland Group. In Africa, he secured NOKIA distribution in Rwanda and set out to establish a deep distribution network across Middle-East and Africa.

Alongside Midcom, Anand continued to diversify his business portfolio. After cultivating an in-depth understanding of the real estate sector, he set up a state of art commercial complex in Kampala, Uganda. This project was accompanied by Kololo Greens, one of the most luxurious residential apartments in Uganda. While utilizing his understanding of distribution network, he initiated a commodity trade division in the Midland Group. With presence in 12 countries, this division is one of the most prominent players in The INDIAN, African and Middle East markets for commodities like Sugar, Rice, Paper and Tyres.

In 2012, he launched Pearl Dairy Farms, his most recent venture in the dairy sector, wherein the group has set up a state of art milk processing plant which collects raw milk from farmers and processes it to milk powder for export to the International Markets. This is a major investment for the benefit of the community as it will support the local milk farmers for years to come and provide them with a sustainable market where they can sell milk all year around.

Under the leadership of Anand Kapoor, the midland group has spread its business in Telecom, Dairy, Education, FOREX, Commodities, Real Estate and Consumer Electronics.

Hobbies and Interests

Anand is a passionate golfer and ensures that he takes his time off to follow his love for the game. His desire to excel and be the best is carried over to the golf course.

Awards and Recognition

Anand Kapoor has been conferred with the NRI of the Year Award by Times Now and ICICI bank in the Entrepreneur UAE Category. In the year 2013, he was listed as one of the Top 100 Indian Leaders in the UAE by Forbes Middle East. He has also been named as one of the top 25 Next Generation Indian leaders based in UAE by Xponent media.
