Anaerobutyricum soehngenii
Anaerobutyricum soehngenii is a species of Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, obligately anaerobic bacteria in the genus Anaerobutyricum. The species was created in 2018 when Eubacterium hallii was moved to the new genus Anaerobutyricum and strain L2-7, isolated from healthy infant feces, became the type strain.
Clinical research
Early human trials indicate metabolic benefits. A two-week, first-in-human pilot in adults with metabolic syndrome showed that oral doses of viable L2-7 were safe, increased its fecal abundance and improved peripheral insulin sensitivity. A crossover study found that duodenal infusion of 109 CFU L2-7 boosted post-prandial GLP-1 secretion and reduced glucose excursions. More recently, a 14-day randomized, placebo-controlled trial in men with type 2 diabetes reported that daily L2-7 capsules lowered 24-hour glucose variability and systolic blood pressure without altering overall microbiota composition.
