An Honest Mistake is a pop punk band from Malaysia.

Overview

An Honest Mistake, is one of Malaysia's latest sensations to hit the music scene. The dynamic pop punk band writes and produces their own music, already generating hit songs like "This Song Is So Random, I Don't Know Why" and "The Snake With Limbs". Fusing metal and hardcore with poppy choruses to make them unique; the band is definitely something to look out for!

In 2009, An Honest Mistake rocked the house down at many popular venues such as Laundry Bar, Urbanattic and The Library with their electrifying performances. They have also played prestigious stages such as the Selangor Music Festival and Malaysia’s Biggest Rock Festival, Rock The World 9 held at Stadium Bukit Jalil.

An Honest Mistake is the winner of the Voize Independent Music Awards (VIMA) "Best College Act" and was nominated for "Best Sunshiny-Feelgood-Song" in the 2010 VIMA Awards.

Come the new year, An Honest Mistake is churning out more singles to delight their fans; in anticipation of the album. With great music and determination, An Honest Mistake is set to take 2010 by storm.

History

An Honest Mistake was formed in 2008 as an acoustic solo project by Darren Teh (also the bassist of Army Of Three). In January 2008, he played his first impromptu gig in "One Cafe" where his brother Kevin Brokenscar performed. He only performed 2 songs, "Promises Kept" and "Suspended in Mid-air". It was from that day onwards, he started writing more songs and performed at various venues like "Laundry Bar" and "No Black Tie".

By February 2008, Darren had written about 3 songs where 'Promises Kept' was then re-titled "This Song Is So Random, I Don't Know Why", "Suspended In Mid-air" and "Dear Darling, I Know We Both Feel The Same Way About This". He then recruited the first member, Kevin Theng which he met at a gig with Army Of Three as the drummer for the band. Long time friend and church member, Joel Dass was asked to fill in the spot of the bassist. Eve Oh, a timid girl who was a new member of the church was then recruited to play electric guitar. Joni Lynne (Now lead singer of Under Headlights) was asked to be the 2nd vocalist.

A few jam sessions later led to their first gig as a full band in March 2008. After the gig, Joni decided that work was taking up most of her time and had to leave the band. Due to some studies, Joel Dass was also put on hold for awhile until he had completed his A-Levels. An Honest Mistake was then a 4 piece band with Lenard Teo (Beat The System, Under Headlights) who filled in on bass. An Honest Mistake released its self recorded demo ep, "Songs From The Elephant's Tusk" which was distributed by hand towards the end of 2008.

When January 2009 came, long time friend Leonard Chua was invited to fill the spot of electric guitarist as Eve was moved to 2nd vocalist. By February 2009, Darren has also met and asked Rohnie Tan, a music student who was an expert violinist, to join the band. Joel was also back in the band as he had completed his studies by then. An Honest Mistake was a complete 6 piece band.

An Honest Mistake released its first single, "This Song Is So Random, I Don't Know Why" on Traxx Fm 90.3fm in September 2009. After the release, the band kicked into high gear and played many prestigious shows in Laundry Bar, Urbanattic, Marketplace, The Library, The Selangor Musical Extravaganza and Malaysia's Biggest Rock Festival, Rock The World 9. The band also went into the studio immediately after that to record "The Snake With Limbs"

After a year of hard work, the band witnessed the departure of Joel Dass and Eve Oh. The two left due to personal reasons. It was very difficult for the members of the band so the search for a new bassist and a female vocalist started. Rohnie Tan which prefers to be a sessionist was replaced by fan and friend Danny New. In the meantime, Alda Tan (Car Crash Hearts) filled in on bass.

An Honest Mistake will be releasing their self-titled album in 2010.
