Amrik Singh Bhandari

Amrik Singh Bhandari was a real estate developer and contractor, he used to work with Uttam Singh Dugal & Co in construction, and then started his own building projects under the company known as Bhandari Builders, making a name in construction across India and having some global projects too.

Early Life

Amrik Singh Bhandari was born to Inder Singh Bhandari, a contractor in his own right who started work in projects in 1937. Later Amrik Singh Bhandari was employed by Uttam Singh Dugal as his employee in Uttam Singh Dugal & Co, which was a very famed company at the time, who his father also worked with in construction in Rawalpindi.

Uttam Singh Dugal & Co

Within Uttam Singh Dugal & Co he rose to the position of Director (and shareholder), undertaking construction projects across India. These projects included the Bhilai Steel Project, along with other steel making projects in Rourkela, Visakhapatnam, Durgapur and Bokaro. With this he also built the Malaysian High Commission, Egyptian Embassy, Philippines Embassy, Palam Airport reconstruction, Oberoi Hotel, Delhi High Court, Supreme Court of India, USIS Library and Residence, Udyog Bhavan, Qutub Hotel, Bank of Baroda, Sagar Apartments, Central Board of Revenue and more.

He had sold all of his shares and left his position as Director of Uttam Singh Dugal & Co on 16th May, 1973, the company declined afterwards.

Bhandari Builders

He founded Bhandari Builders, a construction company. In Najaf, Iraq they had constructed 800 houses, schools, shopping complexes, day cares, shopping centres, electricity and water supply. Along with this they made 20 kilometres of Asphalt roads, high rise apartments in Basra and more between 1981-1987.

They also had construction in La-Vigie, Mauritius (though it was abandoned), and built sewer networks for Kathmandu, Nepal and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In India he had built houses in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Bangalore, roads in Bombay, Nizamuddin and Hyderabad and sports complexes, high rises and power and steel factories as well.

The companies’ construction declined in the 2000s after his retirement.
