Ambassador of Colombia to Trinidad and Tobago

The Ambassador of Colombia to Trinidad and Tobago is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Colombia to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, accredited as Concurrent Non-Resident Ambassador to Barbados, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; and Representative of Colombia to the Association of Caribbean States.

The Ambassador is Colombia's foremost diplomatic representative in Trinidad and Tobago, and Chief of Mission in Port of Spain. The officeholder is charged with representing the interests of the President and Government of Colombia, and advancing the relations between Colombia and the accredited countries.

History

On 29 November 2002 Colombia closed its Embassy in Port of Spain as part of a larger plan of budgetary cuts in the diplomatic sector, the functions of the Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago were thus transferred to the Ambassador of Colombia to Jamaica. On 7 March 2011 President Juan Manuel Santos Calderón announced the re-aperture of the Colombian Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago as part of a greater push to expand Colombian influence in key international markets, this was made official with the appointment of Alfredo Riascos Noguera as Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago on 15 December 2011.
