Ambassador of Colombia to Indonesia
The Ambassador of Colombia to Indonesia is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Colombia to the Republic of Indonesia, accredited as Concurrent Non-Resident Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Independent State of Papua New Guinea; and Representative of Colombia to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
The Ambassador is Colombia's foremost diplomatic representative in Indonesia, and Chief of Mission in Jakarta. The officeholder is charged with representing the interests of the President and Government of Colombia, and advancing the relations between Colombia and the accredited countries.
On 31 January 2003 Colombia closed its Embassy in Jakarta as part of a larger plan of budgetary cuts in the diplomatic sector, the functions of the Ambassador to Indonesia were thus transferred to the Ambassador of Colombia to India. On 7 March 2011 President Juan Manuel Santos Calderón announced the re-aperture of the Colombian Embassy in Indonesia as part of a greater push to expand Colombian influence in key international markets, and as part of the emerging importance of Colombia–Indonesia relations as part of the CIVETS block, this decision was made official with the appointment of Alfonso Garzón Méndez as Ambassador to Indonesia on 22 September 2011.
