Ayurveda
Ayurveda is the rich store house of time tested and effective formulations for the treatment of several obstinate and otherwise incurable diseases. More important than these formulations are the specialized therapies, which not only cure such diseases but also strengthen the immune system in the body and thus help in the prevention of diseases and the promotion of positive health. These specialized therapies in Ayurvedic Science are called Panchakarma. It is no wonder therefore, that scientists and physicians in India and abroad are showing deep interest in this classical for of Ayurvedic treatment. Panchakarma therapy primarily aims at cleaning the body of its accumulated impurities, and nourishing the tissues. Once this is achieved it becomes very easy to rejuvenate these tissues and prevent the process of ageing. The term Panchakrama literally means five specialized therapies.
- Vamana - Emetic therapy
- Virechana - Purgative therapy
- Vasthi - Medicated Enema
- Rakthamokshanam - Blood letting therapy
- Nasyakarma - Nasal therapy
Prior to these administration of these therapies the body of the patient should be suitably prepared and the therapeutic measures used for this purpose are called preparatory therapies. These are
- Snehana - Oleation therapy
- Svedana - Fomentation therapy

The tribal who possess traditional knowledge on medicine, provides more information and also help in the collection of the particular medicinal plants. These plants are collected and cultivated in the herbal garden and later pass to the research wing.
Fr. Gabriel Herbarium & Museum

These identified Herbal Sheets are sending to Botanical Survey of India, Coimbatore (Madras Herbarium) for authentification. These Herbal Sheets are beneficial to the Project students, researchers and medical students. There is a large collection of crude [...] samples identified and bottled in the museum. The centre published a book on medicinal plants titled ‘Keralathile Oushadhasasyagal’ in local language. This book gives awareness about the medicinal plants, Ayurvedic properties and usages, chemical composition, classical formulation, method of cultivation etc. Dept. of Science and Technology gave sanction to the centre an innovative project namely “Involvement of Women in Cultivation of Medicinal Plants and in Indigenous Health Practices” on 2007.
