Background

Allen was born in Long Beach, California and raised in Texas. He is the son of Alf Bostrom, founder of UAC. In fact, Allen remembers accompanying his dad on many business trips, learning, firsthand, how to practice sound financial management. At one point, Alf advised Allen, “If you want to have anything to do with business, you have to understand accounting.” As a result, Allen earned a BS in accounting from the University of Utah and eventually became a CPA.

Before working as an accountant, Allen was a bank clerk, a salesman at a men's clothing store and an office manager for a car dealership. Then, for 12 years, Allen worked as an accountant in various departments within one of the largest corporations in the world, Exxon Mobil. There he focused on limited areas of the accounting process and decided that he wanted to pursue a more fulfilling career as a contract accountant for small businesses. In this, Allen followed in his father’s footsteps, helping small businesses enjoy greater profitability and growth as a result of the application of sound accounting principles.

In 1992, Allen (a practicing CPA) and his brother Ken, joined Universal Accounting Center and helped it become an international institution with campuses located across the nation and a large online presence with multiple websites.

Allen lives in Sandy, Utah, with his wife Sheri. His four children are spreading their wings.

Books

In addition to managing Universal, Allen has authored two books, including In the Black: Nine Principles to Make Your Business Profitable, which has been on Amazon Japan’s bestseller list and is currently in its fourth printing. His latest book, Red to Black in 30 Days, teaches strategies for helping struggling businesses achieve full-profitability with relative ease. He is currently writing In the Black for Dental Practices.
