All About Odie
All AbOUT Odie is an episode of Garfield and Friends. It originally aired on November 26, 1988.
Episode recap
Garfield moderates a lecture about the fan mail that the cast has received over time. He opens the door to a room where Odie’s mail is kept and is soon buried in letters. When he goes to his own mail room, he only finds one letter (which turns out to be a form letter), so he decides to educate the audience on Odie via a series of films and filmstrips.
Garfield first focuses on Odie’s tongue, and he points out the advantages and disadvantages of it. Then he details what Odie does in the morning, afternoon and evening: running around (occasionally in different directions). Garfield then asks the audience if they would like to know what he does all day, and no one answers; nonetheless, he shows himself sleeping (in different positions) in the morning, afternoon and evening.
He then shows himself “vacationing” on his day off, to which an audience member asks what Odie does on his day off. Garfield explains that Odie likes to chase cars and that he occasionally catches some. The audience then asks what Odie does with a car once he catches one, and Garfield says that he buries cars in the backyard. The audience then laughs at that explanation as well as beginning to insult Garfield, which prompts him to storm out of the lecture hall.
When he arrives home, he runs into Odie in the backyard. He laments about how people didn’t believe him when he told them what Odie does with cars, and as they walk they pass several cars that have indeed been buried in the backyard.
Notes
- Jon only appears in a filmstrip.
- This is the first episode where Garfield goes to a TV station to talk about a subject.

Garfield: Before we go on, are there any questions?
Audience member: Uh, yeah. Is wrestling fixed?
Garfield: …I should’ve asked, are there any intelligent questions.
Garfield: I can’t believe my ears!
Audience: We can’t believe your face! [Laughs]
Garfield: Hey, I did not come here to be insulted!
Audience member: Well, where do you usually go?
