Alexandra kelly

Alexandra was born and raised in Greece. She moved to America aged 25 to study for an MBA at one of the top business schools.

She arrived in Britain in 2000 - interrupting a round the world sailing trip with her husband - after discovering she was expecting their first child.

She is currently MD of Powerchex, a pre-employment screening company based in the City of London and was recently named Business Person of the Year in the NatWest Thames Gateway Business Awards 2007 for her achievements in business and community involvement.

In 2004, Alexandra asked the dragons on the BBC's Dragons' Den to invest in her idea for a company specialising in staff referencing for the financial services industry.

But after going it alone, in 2006 her success was rewarded by HSBC, who named her one of their Top 10 new business stars. In 2007, the business that she founded just 2 1/2 years prior won the Natwest Awards Service Business of the Year category and the NatWest Thames Gateway Growth Business of the Year.
