Life and music career
Young was born in New York City on 29 August 1989. She entered the entertainment industry at a very young age. She spent two seasons in the cast of Sesame Street, but she always wanted to become a singer. At the age of 14, she released her first studio recording who was prompted by the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center, where her father worked. Her father made it out of his office and survived, but Young was moved to record the song "Heart of America'" as a tribute to those who came to the aid of the less fortunate. Several years later, while juggling classes at Sarah Lawrence College, she released her debut album Amazing in 2009 on the Anaka label.
MusicAL Styling
Young's music is a fusion between pop and dance with some shades of funk, according to her interview with Cosmogirl. During her interview with Steve Adubato on OneonOne she stated that when she was young, she used to listen to different styles of music like jazz standards, classical and bossa nova. The artists who have inspired her music are Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, Prince and Britney Spears.
2009: Debut album Amazing
On February 2, 2009 she released her debut album under Anaka Records, called Amazing. Young worked with producers and songwriters such as Philip "Taj" Jackson, a two-time Grammy nominee and winner of the 2008 ASCAP Songwriter of the Year Award, and Michelle Bell. The album Amazing also features the contributions of Cutfather, JOnAS Jeberg, and Mysto & Pizzi. The album was preceded by the single "Cold" released on March 17, 2008, a music video for the single directed by William Garcia and the single "Heart Stop".
2011-2012 : Opening for Cee Lo Green and A Young Rose fashion line
After the release of the singles "Government Name" in 2010, "Something is Coming" and "Don't Play With Me" released on October 20, 2011 on occasion of the Fashion's Night Out in New York City, Young continues to promote her music by going on tour. In 2012 she opened for Cee Lo Green at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, Florida. Young was featured as an opening act on July 26 at the WBLS Summer Stage show in New York City as part of her summer tour. Musical Director on Lady Gaga’s world tour, Kern Brantley described Young as "the next generation of modern music". In addition to her new music, Young is also focusing her time on her new fashion line, A Young Rose, which she launched as a participating e-tailer at Fashion’s Night Out during New York Fashion Week 2012. In the same year she released her single "Headphones".
